I’ve written before on here about my own strategy of enjoying yelling along to music, as a means of preemptively self-regulating.
Because when I’m stressed out, I have a tendency to want to yell (at my kids), so I take that need, recognise it, and preemptively meet it in a non harmful way, when I’m not at 100% tapped out — when I’m at 10%, or 50%, or 70%, and I’m in my car driving, then I yell (along with music). It gives me strong proprioceptive feedback through my jaw, lungs, abdomen, diaphragm. It is paired with a delightful sensory experience of hearing music that I love. Lately, it’s also paired with even more sensory delight in it being warm enough outside to have the window down and wind blowing in my face and hair, which I adore.
Anyway, I made a playlist of songs that I love for this purpose! Songs where I love to yell along with them, that typically have a fast pace and lyrics that are good for shouting. In case this is the first time you’re hearing me talk about this, here’s a post that talks about yelling as sensory self-regulation more in depth.

A screenshot of a Spotify playlist. The name of the playlist is “self-reg is yelling at sheep on a fen road”, which is intentionally humorous to me and makes me smile when I click on it. (A fen road is a rural road going through flat wetlands around where I live. Please note that I am not yelling at the sheep in a mean way. They simply get to hear me sing by virtue of being everywhere around here.)
