I had the opportunity to speak to a group at one of the schools where I work on the topic of discerning whether kids’ “behavior” could be motivated by sensory processing, or whether it’s just “acting out”. (If you’ve been following this page for any amount of time, you might guess the spoiler alert that I don’t think “acting out”, in the common parlance, is a thing. 😉 )
This was originally a lecture I gave for a group of elementary school teachers, and then I was asked to repeat it for a different audience of substitute teachers and paraprofessionals. I only remembered to record the 2nd presentation of it, so there are a few points where the slides don’t perfectly match up with the content as I’m tweaking it for my audience. However, I thought it was still valuable to share here.
